I wish this would have been televised on Prime Time.
President Obama meets with House Republican Caucus. Not only great viewing but a rare format that broke past simple sound bites and allowed for reasoned discussion. Unfortunately for the Republicans it wasn't a fair fight.

President Calls Out Republicans on Filibuster
A picture is worth a thousand votes
If you couple this with the fact the 41 Republican Senators represent only 37 percent of the American people compared to the 63 percent that Democratic Senators represent. It is easy to see the absurdity of the tyranny of the minority is.
As a result in this Representative Democracy it takes a 65 percent supermajority of the will of the people to accomplish anything. This could well be why so many independants are so frustrated.
Copied from a post I posted in a Facebook discussion.
One of the difficulties in today's world is many people expect simple one sentence answers to very complicated issues. The reality is that many of our problems are complex and the result from many years of decisions and actions and in action.
The fact that we have a President that wants to have an adult dialogue with the American people is a ... See Moregood thing. The fact that too many people tune out instead of engage says more about them than it does our President.
Look at this post. It was a simple question are you watching the SOTU. How many engaged in conversation vs. How engaged in name calling.
Too many people, especially on the right feel that they blindly spit out garbage about President Obama, Democrats, and Liberals. For many years I have ignored them This last go around I have become more vocal about answering their idiotic unsubstantiated rants with logic (hopefully), facts and dialogue. The above passage was I added to a discussion that simply started with someone asking who was watching the SOTU.
This was just some of the babble going on.
Have these people simply lived in a bubble where everyone agrees? Have others been too intimidated to answer them? Do they simply not care?

I tried, but got sick of hearing, I , I , I , I....not we the people
He does seem quite self centered.
all talk, no show
I have a question...Michelle Obama keeps coming on and talking about Haiti and how it's so bad and all this and how we can donate to the red cross. I'm curious home much the Obamas how donated out of their own pockets to Haiti

I think supporters are generally pleased with last night
"Democrats, I remind you we still have the largest majority in decades, and the people expect us to solve problems, not run for the hills."

A round of applause
I think President Obama embarrassed the R's early on and they don't know how to respond.
To Hell with Spelling
Texting etiquette, grammer, and the proper way to communicate in today's technologically heavy era come up for discussion recently. As often happens shortly after I came across an atricle touching on this matter. This past Sunday's New York Time's Magazine provides an article on the effect of texting on the English language for better or worse or non of the above for that matter.
As the father of a first grader who is teacing his son to read we are dealing with the craziness of the English language constantly.

Sir-Counter-Sir
On a slightly searious note. I sense that Stewart respects some of the work that Olberman has done in the past and this is a shot across the bow of Olbermann. With the purpose of saying hey, don't loose the upperhand.

The Sun rose in the East this morning.
Yeah, believe it or not Scott Brown won by 5 points last night in Mass. This is and should be an embarassement to the Dems. However, when I rolled out of bed there it was a big not so bright Sun coming up. The news that got my attention and concern was the 6.1 earthquake in Haiti.
I gave a few reasons that I thought Coakley was losing yesterday I wanted to add one more. I don't think in general American's want either one party to have too much party. I think that is why we see so often a divided government Dem Pres Rep Congress (Clinton) Rep Press Dem Congress (Reagen, Bush I, Bush II). When there is a regular election cycle people voting for the Senate don't have the power to influence more than their own representation. Yesterday the people of Massachusetts had a chance to influence the power structure in DC. I am guessing that factored largely into the minds of the truly swing voters of MA.

One more thing
If Coakley wins narrowly there will be howls of fraud and cheating as loud as can be. If Brown wins narrowly he will show up in DC the next day demanding to be seated. Any delay what so ever will be detested and undemocratic machine politics. Let us not forget how long it took Senator Franken to be sworn in after winning his election in Minnesota what 5 - 6 months.
Consistency is too much to expect I guess.
Consistency is too much to expect I guess.
Carpetbaggers - lite
I wrote back during the NY23 that people do not like outsiders coming in and telling them how to vote.
There are many number of things going wrong for Coakley in the Senate race. Jon Stewart points out a few. One of the most dangerous for Coakley very well be those that are coming to rescue her.
When the number started turning sour for her, the race got a lot of attention. Money and people started pouring in all the way up to the President. I am not suggesting that the President campaigning for her is a bad thing. However, it might well be a symbol of the outside pressure being placed on an in dependant electorate. Many people whether right or left or straight down the middle tend to recoil in their response.
My uneasy feeling is that the Republicans are going to pull this one out for many different reasons. Democrats better learn some lessons quick on this one.
I will be thrilled to be wrong, but I am not expecting it.
One other thing I about forgot. The story line has been that all the big wigs are coming in to save Martha Coakley. Whether or not this is a result of sexism or not I don't know, but I sense the story line has left the voters sensing weakness and incompetence on the part of Coakley and that can not be a good thing.

Pat someone is not happy with you
A Response that is closer to Robertson's level
Dear Pat Robertson, I know that you know that all press is good press, so I appreciate the shout-out. And you make God look like a big mean bully who kicks people when they are down, so I'm all over that action. But when you say that Haiti has made a pact with me, it is totally humiliating. I may be evil incarnate, but I'm no welcher. The way you put it, making a deal with me leaves folks desperate and impoverished. Sure, in the afterlife, but when I strike bargains with people, they first get something here on earth -- glamour, beauty, talent, wealth, fame, glory, a golden fiddle. Those Haitians have nothing, and I mean nothing. And that was before the earthquake. Haven't you seen "Crossroads"? Or "Damn Yankees"? If I had a thing going with Haiti, there'd be lots of banks, skyscrapers, SUVs, exclusive night clubs, Botox -- that kind of thing. An 80 percent poverty rate is so not my style. Nothing against it -- I'm just saying: Not how I roll. You're doing great work, Pat, and I don't want to clip your wings -- just, come on, you're making me look bad. And not the good kind of bad. Keep blaming God. That's working. But leave me out of it, please. Or we may need to renegotiate your own contract. Best, Satan

I am Magic
All I have to do is think and somehow The Daily Show puts together a piece with moving pictures and sound.
Nostalgia. Good Ole days. God love 'em. I had a friend who was born in India and moved here when he was young. For some reason I don't understand he would stay stuff like I wished I lived in America back in the 50's. It seemed so cool back then.
That always confused me. I am not sure how well recieved a dark skinned thick accented Hindu would have been received in my hometown back in the 50's. Back in the 50's whether it was legal or not segregation was pretty much the standard. Where else should I go with this?
Instead of my old fashioned words take a look for yourself.

This just simply has to stop.
Liberals are not perfect or innocent, Democrats are especially not perfect or innocent, and I definately am not either. However, all this bullshit by the Republicans simply has to stop.
Hypocrisy in Politics is rampant and it drives me crazy and we see it on both sides of the aisle. That being said there are simly too many assholes out there trying to make political points over the Christmas Day attempted bombing. The famous quote from the McCarthy hearing "have you no sense of decency" rings truer and truer as everyday passes. Bold face lying from Dick Cheney to Peter King to Rudy Guilliani maybe normal business in the Health Care Debate and expected to a certain extent.
When these scum go out there and lie when some jerk tries to kill 300 innocent people enough is enough.
A few facts. 9/11 happened when Bush was President. I am not even argueing that it was his fault. There has been a spate of Republicans stating there were "No" terrorist attacks under the Bush Administration. Rudy "America's Mayor" made this statement today, Mary Matatlin advisor to Dick Cheney stated this a couple of weeks ago. This is nothing but a big fat lie. A big fat lie about the death of thousands of Americans.
For those who do not have as big of balls as Cheney et al. there is the statement that Bush kept us Safe, (Well Except for 9/11). That is a pretty big fucking except. Somehow the "us" in that statement doesn't extend to the thousands of men and women killed in Iraq for a war that was unncessary at best, and damaging at least.
President Obama doesn't "believe we are at war", he doesn't use the word terror enough. Damnit do these people think we are on school playground somewhere.
Do these same people remember making the argument that you shouldn't disagree publicly with the President when are at war. That it is aiding and abetting the enemy to have an open and honest debate about the merits of a war. These imbeciles who hid behind the flag of patriotism back then to support a stupid ass war now jump at the first chance to attempt to damage a sitting US President. No wonder so many people are turned off by politics. I am not going to suggest these people don't have a right to question the President or are unpatriotic to do so.
No. But they are complete dipshits for the way they are doing it. You may agree or disagree with the decision to put the underwear bomber in the court system. Be honest enough to accept that is the exact same thing Bush did with Reid and you expressed absolutly no concern back then. Matter of fact a number of Republican's took it as matter of pride to say hey look what Bush dide. Do not suggest that Obama doesn't care about American lives because he made the same decision that Bush made. Again this is irrelevent whether or not you agree, it is simple honesty.
With two wars, terrorist attempts, 10% unemployment, an ongoing debate about Health Care, can we have some damn adults for a change. This is one reason that everytime a crisis has been brought before the country and President Obama whether or not you agree with his decisions you have to appreciate that we have a President that is acting like adult and expecting those around him to do the same. (I am so thankful when I wake up every day and read the paper I don't read a headline about President McCain or President Bush.)
Remember these assholes are not arguing on merits they are lying! Take a few minutes to watch.
