Texting etiquette, grammer, and the proper way to communicate in today's technologically heavy era come up for discussion recently. As often happens shortly after I came across an atricle touching on this matter. This past Sunday's New York Time's Magazine provides an article on the effect of texting on the English language for better or worse or non of the above for that matter.
As the father of a first grader who is teacing his son to read we are dealing with the craziness of the English language constantly.

The Sun rose in the East this morning.
Yeah, believe it or not Scott Brown won by 5 points last night in Mass. This is and should be an embarassement to the Dems. However, when I rolled out of bed there it was a big not so bright Sun coming up. The news that got my attention and concern was the 6.1 earthquake in Haiti.
I gave a few reasons that I thought Coakley was losing yesterday I wanted to add one more. I don't think in general American's want either one party to have too much party. I think that is why we see so often a divided government Dem Pres Rep Congress (Clinton) Rep Press Dem Congress (Reagen, Bush I, Bush II). When there is a regular election cycle people voting for the Senate don't have the power to influence more than their own representation. Yesterday the people of Massachusetts had a chance to influence the power structure in DC. I am guessing that factored largely into the minds of the truly swing voters of MA.

One more thing
If Coakley wins narrowly there will be howls of fraud and cheating as loud as can be. If Brown wins narrowly he will show up in DC the next day demanding to be seated. Any delay what so ever will be detested and undemocratic machine politics. Let us not forget how long it took Senator Franken to be sworn in after winning his election in Minnesota what 5 - 6 months.

I wrote back during the NY23 that people do not like outsiders coming in and telling them how to vote.
There are many number of things going wrong for Coakley in the Senate race. Jon Stewart points out a few. One of the most dangerous for Coakley very well be those that are coming to rescue her.
When the number started turning sour for her, the race got a lot of attention. Money and people started pouring in all the way up to the President. I am not suggesting that the President campaigning for her is a bad thing. However, it might well be a symbol of the outside pressure being placed on an in dependant electorate. Many people whether right or left or straight down the middle tend to recoil in their response.
My uneasy feeling is that the Republicans are going to pull this one out for many different reasons. Democrats better learn some lessons quick on this one.
I will be thrilled to be wrong, but I am not expecting it.
One other thing I about forgot. The story line has been that all the big wigs are coming in to save Martha Coakley. Whether or not this is a result of sexism or not I don't know, but I sense the story line has left the voters sensing weakness and incompetence on the part of Coakley and that can not be a good thing.

Dear Pat Robertson, I know that you know that all press is good press, so I appreciate the shout-out. And you make God look like a big mean bully who kicks people when they are down, so I'm all over that action. But when you say that Haiti has made a pact with me, it is totally humiliating. I may be evil incarnate, but I'm no welcher. The way you put it, making a deal with me leaves folks desperate and impoverished. Sure, in the afterlife, but when I strike bargains with people, they first get something here on earth -- glamour, beauty, talent, wealth, fame, glory, a golden fiddle. Those Haitians have nothing, and I mean nothing. And that was before the earthquake. Haven't you seen "Crossroads"? Or "Damn Yankees"? If I had a thing going with Haiti, there'd be lots of banks, skyscrapers, SUVs, exclusive night clubs, Botox -- that kind of thing. An 80 percent poverty rate is so not my style. Nothing against it -- I'm just saying: Not how I roll. You're doing great work, Pat, and I don't want to clip your wings -- just, come on, you're making me look bad. And not the good kind of bad. Keep blaming God. That's working. But leave me out of it, please. Or we may need to renegotiate your own contract. Best, Satan

I am Magic
All I have to do is think and somehow The Daily Show puts together a piece with moving pictures and sound.
Nostalgia. Good Ole days. God love 'em. I had a friend who was born in India and moved here when he was young. For some reason I don't understand he would stay stuff like I wished I lived in America back in the 50's. It seemed so cool back then.
That always confused me. I am not sure how well recieved a dark skinned thick accented Hindu would have been received in my hometown back in the 50's. Back in the 50's whether it was legal or not segregation was pretty much the standard. Where else should I go with this?
